The Stimulus Sham
Written by Ted Craig, on 02-18-2010 09:04 AM

There will be light rail in Detroit soon and a new transit center for Amtrak and the local bus system in one of its suburbs, all thanks to federal stimulus money. The other day I read a screed declaring opposition to the current stimulus equated to sentencing people to death. Don't you know bridges are collapsing in Minnesota?

Well, a bridge collapsed, but even if you believe there's an imminent threat, the current stimulus does little to address the situation. In fact, one Michigan county, the same that will be home to the new transit center, canceled three bridge repair projects recently due to a lack of funds.

Instead of spending money on projects for which you can make a case people need, you're spending it on projects people want. Some people.

The current stimulus is a sham. It's worse than burying bottles full of money. Now we're being told we need another and we're all supposed to bend over like Kevin Bacon in Animal House. No thanks.
